A. Tips Where to Withdraw Money in Yogyakarta without Money Changer
1. ATM Machine : Mandiri, BNI, BRI, BCA
If you do not bring cash from your own country, you can easily withdraw cash from any ATM in Yogyakarta with Visa, Mastercard, Union Pay or Cirrus Logo. Every ATM will charge you some amount of money to use their services, the amount will be vary from IDR 0 to IDR 150.000. It depends with type of your card, VISA, Mastercard or Union Pay, and also depends on the bank where your card was issued.
Please be remember, that every ATM will charge you per transaction, and per transaction maximum you can withdraw only 25 notes. There are 2 types of ATM, the one with IDR 50.000 notes and the other is with IDR 100.000 notes. Because you can only withdraw maximum 25 notes, make sure you choose the ATM machines with IDR 100.000 notes, so you can withdraw IDR 2.500.000. Otherwise you can only withdraw IDR 1.250.000 per transaction with the same amount of transaction fees.
There are dozens of Bank Brands in Indonesia, and my suggestion, take a cash from the 4 biggest Bank in Indonesia. This 4 banks has better International Network with other International Banks and they have better conversion rate compared with the other brands.
These banks are Mandiri, BNI, BRI and BCA. Mandiri, BNI and BRI are part of National Bank. And BCA is a private bank.
2. How to Withdraw Money by Credit Card with the Flat Transaction Fees and better limit
If you would like to withdraw cash by credit card with a better limit, you can go directly to an office Bank. The Bank is BCA. Not all BCA branch have this service, only one BCA Branch in Yogyakarta that can help you to do this. This is the main Branch of BCA in Yogyakarta, check this maps in this link : BCA KCU YOGYAKARTA.
You can withdraw money with a better amount and better conversion rate than withdraw money from ATMs. I think, any amount you withdraw, the transaction fees is flat.
Please be noticed, this bank only open from 08.00 AM to 3.00 PM and only during working days.
B. How to use Taxi Apps like Gojek or Grab and pay without cash
If you would like to commute a lot within the city centre, downloading the local taxi application is a must. There is two biggest taxi apps tha work in many cities in Indonesia, those are Gojek and Grab. The good news is, you do not need to pay by cash. You can easily connect your credit card to the apps. So yo can travel anywhere within city centre without worrying about cash. This apps are also available for food delivery service.
It is easy to connect your credit card with the apps, just go to the setting in the apps – click “payment method” – add method – then connect your credit card with the apps.
You can pay also with credit or debit card in many merchants. VISA, Mastercard and Union Pay are work well in Yogyakarta City.
C. Best Money Changer in Yogyakarta City.
Since I work in travel industry, visiting a money changer is a normal routine for me. Based on my experience after changing money in several Money Changer, I have my own conclusion. Only 2 Money Changer with the best rate, here it is :
1. Mulia Money Changer. There are some Mulia Money Changer, you should check at the google maps which one is closer to your location. Here is the list :
2. Barumun Money Changer
Here is the location : Barumun Abadi Raya Money Changer Jogja
We have a lot of other money changer within Yogyakarta City or at the airport. However, the rate is not as good as the Mulia or Barumun Money Changer. The problem is, Mulia and Barumun are only open in the working days and during working hours (08.00 AM – 04.00 PM), while other money changer seems to be open more flexible until night time. If you really need to change money at night, there are a lot of money changer in Prawirotaman Street. Maybe you can change for smaller amount if you really need it. And change at Mulia or Barumun Money Changer at the opening time.
