Soekarno–Hatta International Airport (CGK) is Indonesia’s main gateway, serving Jakarta and the surrounding metropolitan area. Located about 20 km west of central Jakarta, it is one of Southeast Asia’s busiest airports, handling domestic and international flights. The airport has multiple terminals—Terminal 1 and 2 for domestic and some international routes, and the modern Terminal 3 for major international airlines—offering facilities like shopping, dining, lounges, and rail access to the city.

My top recommendation will be Bus Shuttle (Damri). As an Indonesian that going frequently from my city, Yogyakarta to Jakarta by flight. This option is the one that I choose to reach Jakarta City Centre from the airport. It is easy to find where is the Damri Shuttle location. This Damri will be available at any Terminal of Soekarno Hatta.

Once you are out from the custom clearance, find a sign of Damri Shuttle or bus stop. You may also ask the airport staff where is the bus stop for Damri. To be easier, normally it is located in the left corner of every Terminal.

The Damri Shuttle from Jakarta Airport to Gambir Station is operated from 07.00 AM to 23.00 PM and will runs every hour. By the time I write this article, the Damri Shuttle costs only IDR 80.000, it is around USD 5 per person. There is luggage space in every bus, so you do not need to worry about your luggage.

There are a lot of directions of Damri Shuttle, but if you plan to visit Jakarta City Centre, you should choose Gambir Station Direction. Nearby Gambir Station, there will be a lot of important place to visit in just walking distance such as National Monument, National Museum, National Mosque, US Embassy and other embassies, and Hotel Indonesia. So, it is exactly has strategic location. And if you plan to visit Jakarta Old town, it is also near by the Gambir Station.

The Damri Bus trip from Jakarta Airport to Gambir Station will take around 1,5 hours for 30KM, depends on the traffic. Check this link if you plan to continue your journey from Gambir Station to Yogyakarta City by Train.

The second option to take you from Jakarta Airport to city centre will be an airport train. Might be you think that airport train will be a lot of faster than any other transportation option. It can be true, if your final destination is nearby to the drop off station. The airport train has a final destination in Manggarai Train Station, it is also the starting point for the opposite direction. It is the main hub of Local Station in Jakarta. But, if your final destination is in the city centre, then you should stop in BNI City Station. BNI City Station is just in walking distance to Hotel Indonesia Roundabout or Indonesia Welcome Monument and around 5 KM to Indonesia National Stadium (Gelora Bung Karno)

However, you should check where is your final destination, going from the BNI City to your hotel can be frustrating during peak hours. Sometimes it is better to take taxi from the airport directly to your final destination.

But if you are persistence to go with the airport train here is the way. Once you go out from the custom clearance, you can find a sign “ Kalayang Train”, it means Sky Train. You can proceed to the airport train station from any terminal. All terminals in Jakarta Airport is connected by this Sky Train.

The cost to go from Soekarno Hatta Airport to Jakarta City Centre is IDR 70.000 (price is subject to change). It is just around USD 5$. It will take only around 45 minutes to the final station (Manggarai Train Station) and takes around 40 minutes to BNI City Station. But, please consider again, to go from BNI Station to your accommodation can take forever during peak hours. You should check where is your final destination exactly.

If you are arrive in Jakarta Airport in a group, I would definitely suggest to book a taxi directly. The most trusted taxi company in Jakarta or even in Indonesia is Blue Bird Taxi.
