There are some tranport option to take you from Surabaya City to Mount Bromo :

Train from Surabaya to Mount Bromo

If you have stayed in Surabaya City Centre, going to Bromo by train is the best option. It is divided by train journey from Surabaya City to Probolinggo Station and the land transport from Probolinggo Station to your hotel in Bromo Area. The closest village to Mount Bromo will be Cemoro Lawang Village.
The train journey from Surabaya Station to Probolinggo Station is around 1,5 hours. There are 3 different departure station : Surabaya Gubeng Station , Surabaya Pasar Turi or Wonokromo Station. Check in google maps which station is closer to your accommodation.
You can book the ticket from Surabaya to Probolinggo on Traveloka or KAI Access Apps. Please keep in mind, to be able to book the train ticket in the apps you have to change the currency into IDR (rupiah), otherwise you will not see any train booking option.
The price for the train is varried depends on the seat class. It is in range of IDR 150.000 to IDR 360.000. For 1,5 our journey, it is not necessary to book the executive class train, you can just book the economy one.
From Probolinggo Train Station, then you can catch a shared taxi to take you to Cemoro Lawang Village. Normally once you get out of the train station in Probolinggo, you will meet the other travellers, ask them to have a shared transport, it will make the price cheaper. Otherwised, there are a lot of drivers that will offer a transport service in Probolinggo Train Station.
To explore Mount Bromo, you need to hire a jeep. Normally the accommodation offer a jeep rental. The rate is around IDR 600.000 to 1.000.000 per jeep. You can share the jeep with other visitor to make it cheaper. You will also need to pay around IDR 300.000 per person to enter Bromo National Park. All jeep will past the National Park Gate, so you could just hand over the money to the driver.

Bus from Jakarta to Mount Bromo
There is 2 type of buses to take you from Surabaya City to Mount Bromo : Public Bus and Damri Bus,.
Public (Regular) Bus

As per safety reason, personally, i do not recommend you to take regular bus from the bus terminal. However, i still need to give you an information about how to take a bus from Surabaya to Mount Bromo.
You should take the bus from Bungurasih Terminal, it is the main terminal in Surabaya City. To be easier for you, wherever you are in Surabaya, you can take an online taxi like Gojek or Grab to take you to Bungurasih Bus Terminal.
Once you get inside the terminal, there will be direction where to get the bus direction. Find a sign for Probolinggo City Direction. You do not need to book the ticket in advance. There will be buses every 30 minutes 24/7. The ticket will be around IDR 100.000.
You should stop at the bus terminal called Banyuangga Bus Terminal. From Banyuangga Bus Terminal then you can catch a local transport. It is looks like very basic transport with old condition. Ask them if they will go to Cemoro Lawang Village, the last village to enter Bromo National Park. Also you can have shared transport. You can go out from Banyuangga bus terminal, there will be a lot of sharing transport agent. Or you can take a taxi and share it with the other travellers.

Damri Bus (National Company)

If you are staying at the city centre, you can take Damri Bus. The bus does not stop at Probolinggo Terminal, it will stop directly at Sukapura Rest Area, it is closer to Bromo National Park. In Sukapura District, there will be a lot of homestays available. You can just stay at the accommodation in Sukapura and ask the hotel staff to organize a jeep tour the next early morning.

You can take online taxi from Surabaya to Cemoro Lawang Village near Mount Bromo. You should download the taxi apps, there are 2 option, those are Gojek and Grab. It will cost around IDR 600.000 to IDR 1.000.000. The price depends on your starting point and also the timing. You can share the cost with other travellers in case you meet them at the hostel. Please keep in mind, the price in the apps does not include the toll fees. The toll fees will cost around IDR 100.000 from Surabaya City Centre to the exit toll in Probolinggo City.

1. Penanjakan Hill
